Jia Wang ~ Hong Kong Hong

Name –王嘉龍 [Wang Jialong] - "Jia"
Country of Origin – Hong Kong, China
Age – 16
Birthday – July 1
Job – Library Assistant

Personality – Jia is normally very quiet and shy, never the one to start a conversation, but usually more than willing to continue it. He’s known to daydream excessively, and is infamous for his obsession with stuffed pandas. Also, while he's a fairly talented chef for someone his age, it’s obvious that he enjoys eating food more than actually cooking it. Despite his spacey, random nature, Jia is actually quite manipulative; he has a talent for reading other people and knows exactly which buttons to press to get what he wants. Jia can also become disturbingly possessive and is quick to jealousy; he's very close to his older 'brother' Yao and is almost always seen by his side.

Once someone finally gets him to speak, they’ll find that he’s extremely blunt and sarcastic, almost to the point of being outright insulting; he doesn’t really intend to come across that way, but isn’t too apologetic about it. Because of inconsistent language lessons, his speech can turn from perfectly polite to horrendously vulgar without warning, though he doesn’t seem to notice, or rather, simply doesn’t care. His accent is also rather strange; distinctly English, but with a slight hint of Irish tossed in.

Jia has something of a mischievous streak and adores setting off firecrackers to scare the living daylights out of anyone who happens to be close by. Though he likes to think of himself as independent and perfectly capable of doing anything and everything, Jia often seeks reassurance from others, showing that he’s a bit unconfident in his skills.

Reason for Recruitment - Originally, Jia was merely an accessory to his older brother Yao, who was taken in to serve as the organization’s medical expert. Because he was only 11 years old at the time, there really wasn’t much he could do, other than serve as PEC’s unofficial ‘pet’. After receiving a crash course in English from the director and assistant director, Jia’s talent for stealth was put into use, and his training began. While he’s still quite hesitant to actually shoot to kill, he’s an excellent shot with near perfect aim.

Appearance – Standing at just under 5’4, Jia has a slim frame with oddly prominent hips, making him seem somewhat ambiguous in gender. His dark brown hair falls in short, choppy layers to frame his pale face; heavy bangs (usually brushed to the left) almost completely cover his thick eyebrows, which have been a constant source of frustration since childhood. His bright golden eyes are always a bit sleepy looking and never seem to be focused, giving the impression that he’s always in the middle of a daydream. Because of Jia’s far off expression, it’s extremely difficult to predict what he may be thinking. His lips are usually pulled into a very slight frown, and it’s rare to ever see him smile.

Despite his grim profession, Jia is still quite fashion conscious and likes to look his best while on the job. He adores anything with long, floppy sleeves and had panda charms on all his electronic devices, as well as stickers of the Hong Kong flag.

History – Jia was born the illegitimate child between a British naval officer and the daughter of a wealthy Hong Kong CEO. For two years, the young couple cared for him in secret, claiming he was the son of a friend whenever anyone asked about their relation. Unfortunately, Jia’s father was called back to England, leaving his mother to care for him alone. Afraid that her father would kill the child, she reluctantly left him in the care of a mainland orphanage with hope that he would soon be adopted.

At the orphanage, Jia was mostly ignored by the caretakers due to his mixed heritage and often teased by the other kids because of his strong eyebrows. Being exposed to such treatment at a young age made the toddler extremely shy and withdrawn; he rarely spoke to anyone, no matter the situation. The only person that would show any sort of kindness to the children was a young school teacher who came in every other day to teach them how to read. After over a year of being practically non-existent, Jia was approached by an older boy named Yao Wang, who arrived after his family had been swept away in a recent flood. While he was cautious around Yao at first, they soon became very close and were often mistaken for brothers; it was the first time Jia had received such attention since being abandoned.

Five years later, a member of the orphanage staff caught him playing with a discarded cigarette lighter; his punishment was swift and unnecessarily harsh, leaving the boy bleeding and unconscious on the floor. Eventually, when he came to, he found the woman who had beaten him lying a few feet away, bludgeoned to death by Yao. The boys ran away from the orphanage before anyone could see what had happened; Jia needed to be carried most of the way, and the brutal beating left a host of small scars across his back.

The unofficial brothers lived alone on the streets of Beijing for the next few years, with one rarely going anywhere without the other. Jia had put himself in charge of stealing any necessary items, like food or blankets, quickly learning how to move quietly and efficiently. Occasionally he would be given small snacks out of pity, which he always shared with Yao.

When Jia came down with a nasty bout of pneumonia, a result from the environment and a lack of proper nutrients, Yao once again came to his aid, nursing him back to health with a mixture of traditional herbs and care. Shortly during his recovery, the two were approached by an Englishman looking to recruit Yao for an organization neither had ever heard of. Jia had no choice but to tag along when his brother eventually accepted, as the two were basically attached at the hip by that point. He’s been living at the PEC headquarters ever since, helping where he can and making sure to stick his nose into everyone’s business.

RP Sample – Jia flipped to the next page, skipping over the author’s excessive purple prose and reading only the short paragraphs in between dialogue. Why hadn’t he brought something less...’teenage girl’ to read? Ah well, this mission was kind of last minute so it totally wasn’t his fault the book sucked. He’d only have to suffer through the generic writing for another five minutes anyway.

A loud pop brought golden eyes back to the large flames before him. Jia stared unflinchingly into the blinding light, admiring the feral dance of yellows and reds as they eventually peaked into an eerie, pale blue. He knew his interest in fire was a bit much for some people, but he could honestly care less. It wasn’t like he had some weird leather thong fetish...unlike a certain someone who kept checking out “Fun with Cow Hide!”

...Come to think of it, that book was almost a month overdue.

After another pop, Jia stood up, brushing the sand from his jeans; after getting rid of an annoying kink in his shoulder, he tossed his disappointing read into the bonfire as well.

“I think it’s done,” he sighed, turning to the rest of the group while holding a sleeve over his nose. No matter how beautiful he found the process to be, Jia didn’t think he would ever get used to the smell of burning flesh.
